HomeNet Africa exchange exposure visit to SEWA in Amedabad, India

Homenet Africa sent a delegation of 3 representatives ( Jemima Nyakongo, HNKs Chairperson & HNI treasurer, Edwin Bett, Africa’s Regional Coordinator, both from Kenya and Thabile from South Africa) to Self Employed Womens Association ( SEWA) a single largest union of women workers in the informal economy working for the upliftment of homebased workers, for a learning exposure visit in Amedabad, India from 11th – 14th September 2023

With an objective of;

  • learning more on constitution building
  • learning organising models
  • learning the financial systems

During the exposure visit the participants were privileged to visit:

  • SEWA trade union offices
  • SEWA community centre
  • SEWA federation
  • SEWA bank
  • SEWA child care centre
  • SEWA Academy
  • SEWA insurance cooperative limited

And also interacted with HBWs in their homes,
